Does it seem to you that all new political campaigns seems less focused on issues, the most traded content, and more than half-truths that the truth? It seems that most of our political campaigns seem more "sell candidate" which actually indicates the positions of candidates and the box.
My reaction the 2008 presidential campaign was that it was a struggle between a candidate who spent the flower, and another that was not ready for prime time. Rarely has a product candidate that his campaign promises, not as bad as the critics of his opponent. When was the last time I remember an interview all political promises he made when he was campaigning once elected to office.
Many campaigns involve not only the usual "distortions" that participate in campaigns, but candidates discuss issues such as campaign issues, not related to execution for the office. For example, New York State, the State Comptroller did not prepare, approve and submit the state budget to the Assembly legislation. In New York, the governor is prepared and presented the budget and submit it to the state legislature for approval or modification. To make things more absurd, while New York State law requires a term that should be completed this budget process and approved a final budget, has become the norm for the final state budget to take three to four more months before the final is approved. It's quarter to one third of years later! The controller is mainly involved in areas such as pension funds, etc., but if you listen to the candidate ads, you never know who was the case.
Similarly, in many smaller agencies, there are positions as tax collector. Advertising of these posts that these people seem determine the taxes, tax cuts, budget savings, etc. In most places, which is something the matter and people are basically running a type of office accounting department. In most of these entities, mayors and town supervisors in general submit a budget to the Legislature for final approval.
We heard a lot today about "race" of estate taxes. Of course, in a superficial, why would anyone want their taxes increased. However, the reality is that if taxes are not received fees land, the city still needs revenue to fund schools, etc. So these proposals is save money at real person? This becomes even worse when it comes to property assessment, and that even if they are small, generally does not prohibit the authority tax simply increasing the tax rate on assessments.
Until the public demands to vote less hype and more substance from their candidates, nothing will improve, and things are likely to continue in the same case absurd. Until we develop a system where specific issues are presented by the candidates and the public demands answers associated with the substance, there is no real improvement quality results that we get elected.
