The Expendables
The Expendables are mercenaries stationed in New Orleans and led by Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), a former SAS soldier. The other team members of one of the top rated movies are, Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), a blade specialist, Yin Yang (Jet Li), martial art exponent, Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), an expert sniper, Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), a specialist in weapons and Toll Road (Randy Couture), who specializes in demolition. The flash back shows that a gang of Somali pirates are holding some hostages and The Expendables have been assigned to stop their execution. After the success of the mission, Ross is forced to release Jenson from the team, because of his behavior and drug abuse.
Like the Expendables, there are other mercenaries and one such team is led by Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Trench and Ross meet Mr. Church (Bruce Willis), who wants them to overthrow General Garza (David Zavas), dictator of Vilena, an island in the Gulf of Mexico. Ross takes the contract as Trench has a mission in hand. After a meeting with his contact Sandra (Gisele Itie), Ross learns that an ex-CIA agent James Monroe (Eric Roberts) is controlling Garza. Sandra also reveals that she is actually Garza's daughter. Her sincere talk makes an emotional contact with Ross and he believes her. After being expelled from the team by Ross, Jensen approaches Monroe and offers his services.
Ross contacts his former ally Tool (Mickey Rourke) and comes to know that the mission is actually a plot by the CIA and the real target is Monroe and not Garza. The team decides to help Sandra and Ross proposes to do it alone because of his emotions for Sandra. But Yang insists on coming along. Such a plot is used in almost all the top movies. On their way they are chased by Jensen and in an empty warehouse Yang and Jensen have a brutal fight in which Jensen nearly succeeds in killing Yang but Ross save him by firing at Jensen. Wounded by the shot and feeling guilty of letting the team down, Jensen reveals the layout of the palace to Ross.
Ross and Yang contact the other team members and make plans to help their friend Sandra. After infiltrating into the palace the team plants explosives everywhere. Monroe suspects Sandra for giving the information about the palace to Ross. Garza revolts when Monroe tortures his daughter and is killed by Monroe. After fighting the palace guards, the team is able to destroy Monroe's helicopter. Monroe's bodyguards, The Brit and Paine are eliminated by Christmas and Toll. Sandra is rescued from the clutches of Monroe by Ross and Christmas and Monroe gets killed. Such a plot is often deployed for the top movies. The team gives the fee for the mission to Sandra so that she can make Vilena a better place. The team returns to New Orleans and a reformed Jensen is taken back in the team by Ross amid lot of celebrations by the team.
Being one of the top rated movies, this movie has been directed by Stallone, who has collaborated with David Callaham in writing the story. It is an out and out Stallone movie, with lots of rough action, no-holds barred fighting and a liberal use of explosives thrown in. In short, it being one of the top movies, is a must see for the die hard fans of Stallone and those hooked to action movies.
