For several weeks I contacted Antoinette Frank by correspondence and telephone calls, and finally planned a visit to the pavilion to death meet her in person.
Many of you have heard of his case, but have not, here is a brief synposis his case and sentence. Antoinette Franks was a police officer in New Orleans (now 37) who was convicted of stealing the Kim Anh restaurant in eastern New Orleans, while police March 4, 1995. With this flight, killing a policeman named Ronald A. Williams, who worked as security guard, (She had known and worked with prevoiusly) and two workers who were brothers. She and another man (also convicted and sentenced to death) with the name of Roger de La Caze was robbery (Google her name and / or go on wikipedia to see his photo).
Later, after his arrest, investigation revealed that the body of a man buried under his house believed to be his father, who had previously been missing, so ... some scored her a mass murderer! He was convicted and sentenced to death September 12, 1995, and is currently in death row at the Institute Louisiana's women's correctional St. Gabriel, Louisiana (just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana).
At first, I fed her and the possibility of writing a book together, and to my knowledge, I was the only journalist and writer who has spoken to 13 years many claims by others. The reason she said she contacted me because he thought he would "tell" your version the facts accurately. Later, after our visit, the two decided that it was impossible, and I'll share with you why later.
By cold rain one day, I arrived at the prison yard and it goes without saying, has endured a lot of security measures. Research, questions, and seek again. a fund should be studied in detail before being allowed to see the death penalty. On entering the special cell of Antoinette, who exchanged jokes and eventually went to work ... this possible on a book. Our visit lasted several hours, and covering most of his life, and my life.
Now, why not write a book together. Antoinette position I was ambivalent. On the one hand, she left me the impression that this book would be an admission, and she wanted the world (and God) to forgive him, especially the family of the victim. But on the other hand, categorically refuse to renounce its calls! Why should I care, calls? I asked why his appeal? Well, my position is that if you are guilty before God, why appeal? An appeal on the merits is that you are innocent!
My position is that if you are at fault, admit it (did I mention it There were actually two witnesses to the crime and everything she initially confessed but later recanted.) And I really believed, as his many letters, she found God and was ready to confess that I would write about his repentance. Otherwise, why write a book?
As many of you know, I was once a criminal police, and surrendered to police in 2001 because I really regret my past and want to pay the price and become a citizen of the world again. No regrets but God, but all I was hurt over the years.
One may wonder, but Robert, she is on death row, scheduled for lethal injection, why would not appeal? I also plan to die! In 1979, when he became a fugitive, I ran through the voice of the prison in Angola (And this was public knowledge) was that he would be raped and murdered the first day! A police officer can not survive in the general population, particularly the population includes inmates in prisons that the police put them there!
I was looking at the prison and death itself in my delivery! And if for some reason which was placed in solitary rest comfinement still doing what we call a line 30.
Do the math, 30 years "without" parole, 45 years means I'm 75 in case of release (if I'm alive after 30 years). Which is a type of death, and some even say that death is preferable to the essence of life in prison (30 long years). If not for my belief in God and my desire to repent, believe that the judge had I the time. And for me that is the key Freedom ... repent to God, asking forgiveness from his victim (s) and must remain free of crime. Do not believe in God? Well, that's their right, then apologize to the victim and crime are still free!
After a few weeks after our visit, I can understand your fear though. It is caught in a trap 22: admit that he is guilty, waive his appeal, and perhaps receive death much earlier. Capture, use your resources (mean time of 12 to 15 calls) and extend their shelf life, if you call sitting in a living cell.
What I leave that visit the many letters, and know-Antoinette?
I am grateful that the Lord finally gave me the strength not to fear death or 30 years, and gave me faith to know that He is real. I am pleased to have been obedient to his mandate to offer ... him first, then the cops! My warning ... please do not hurt others!
(Please note: The author donated the proceeds their organizations CP book for women and children abuse)!
